My passion is to revive the outstanding works of women composers who were famous during their time but who have been forgotten by history.
— Anna Daniela Sestito
Anna Daniela began singing at the age of seven. It was the beginning of a lifelong passion for music but not without some detours along the way, including three years of law school and two years as a gymnast and professional volleyball player. When she wasn’t in the gym, she stayed fit by swimming in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Calabria in southern Italy, where she grew up.
Singing was an integral part of her childhood in a country where classical music has been central to Italian culture for centuries. Italy is where the violin and piano were invented and opera was created. Music still holds an elevated position in modern Italian society. It’s part of the national identity.
It is against this historical backdrop of world-class musical excellence that Anna Daniela would prove herself to be an exceptional talent. Her mother and father were impressed, and encouraged her to pursue a career in music.
She placed second in a national singing competition, gaining recognition as an up-and-coming mezzo-soprano. During this phase, she embraced a busy schedule of travel and on-stage performances throughout Europe, which led to a career as a professional opera singer and lead soloist.
Also during this time, she pursued formal music education at two different music conservatories in Italy, earning a Masters Degree in musicology and musical heritage from the Stanislao Giacomantonio Music Conservatory. Anna Daniela also pursued advanced studies in Baroque-style singing at a music conservatory in Switzerland. She gained her state diploma in France for voice and singing teacher. And she is now pursuing a Masters Degree in musicological research at the Sorbonne University in Paris.
Anna Daniela continues to expand her music repertoire which now includes orchestral conducting, baroque dance, choir conducting, Renaissance vocal polyphony, the flute recorder and Gregorian singing.
